YS feels like Family Again – Good to feel Known

Last night, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with the YS, Youthworks, and other key leaders at the National Youth Workers Convention in San Diego.

I was sitting across from Eric from Youthworks who was working on his talk for this morning. He was looking for a Mike Yaconelli quote that related to this year’s theme known.

I shared with him that the thing that was amazing about Mike and YS in his lifetime was how Mike could in 3 minutes have 15 to 5,000 youth workers feel like he knew and understood our joy, pain, struggles, fears, and passions. You felt like he knew what was happening in your church. You felt his love for you and your work. If you attended during that time, you know the talk that included Jones Memorial carpet and wine.

Then, the convention would allow thousands of youth workers to laugh, play, worship, and learn together creating one big family that cried, ministered, and prayed for each other.

The last two years have been hard like watching a struggling family. Because we felt like YS was apart of our family, we felt that pain and struggled like the children in a divorce wondering what the future would bring.

I wanted to let you know that after going to San Diego I can say that the family is back. They are having a reunion in Nashville in November. I hope you’ll join us. The family is not complete without all of you.

Thanks Tic, Mark, Adam, and the YS and Youthworks staff for a great NYWC. See u in Nashvegas!
