Youth Ministry Game: Shaving Cream Explosion

I share this game with some pride, because I made it up.  I hope your kids enjoy it as much as the groups that I know have played it.

Supplies

Shaving Cream Explosion3 Nails, 2 screws

1 – 3 foot 2 x 4

1 – 10 foot 2 x 4

1 – Can of Shaving Cream

10 – punch balls (shown above) available at party supply stores or at Walmart

Prep:

  1. Nail 3 nails through the 3 foot 2 x4 near one end of the board.  Cluster the 3 nails together about 1/2 inch to 1 inch a part.
  2. Attach the 3 foot 2 x 4 to the top of the 10 foot 2 x 4 forming an L shaped structure with the 3 nails pointing down.  Alternatively, attach the 3 foot 2 x 4 to a basketball goal rim or screw it into the support beam of a picnic shelter.
  3. Squirt shaving cream into each of the punch balls until they are a little bigger than a softball.
  4. Blow the punch balls with the shaving cream in them up and tie off the balloons.

How to Play

Have a volunteer or 2 hold the 10 foot L structure up in the air with the 3 nails pointing down.

Your group will work as a team to keep the balloon off the ground by hitting it (like keep a regular balloon off the ground when you were a kid).  They will not be good at it at first.  They will work to move the balloon to underneath the L structure and then to pop the balloon on the nails.

The shaving cream will explode all over the group below including a snowing effect.

I have tried changing the game up by having people actually punch the balls toward nails on a wall.  It’s funny to see how bad folks are at playing with the punch balls and you get the explosion experience, but you the shaving cream does not get on the participants that much.

Warnings

Be careful with the 10 foot L structure clearly it has exposed nails.  Also if you play on asphalt or grass, balloons may pop when they hit the ground which will be disappointing for you and the game.  They don’t always, but its a risk.

Have fun!
